Overview 

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at The Road Home's Connie Crosby Family Resource Center. We are grateful for your support!  This facility provides meals, shelter, and other resources for over 60 families (over 230 guests). We are open 24/7, 365 days a year and provide resources like clothing and hygiene products for no cost to our guests.   

Requirements 

This opportunity invites individuals and small community groups to our donation center at CCFRC for shifts of 2 hours. You will assist warehouse staff in accepting and sorting donations, organizing clothing, and other needed tasks. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday-Friday from 9 am-11 am, 11 am-1 pm, and 1 pm-3 pm. There are also opportunities on Saturday and Sunday from 7 am-9 am, 9 am-11 am, and 11 am-1 pm. This facility can accommodate 5 volunteers per shift in the donation center. If you are interested in bringing a group of 6-10, please email volunteer@theroadhome.org with a requested shift. 

All volunteers must be at least 12 years old and wear closed-toed shoes. Volunteers under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. This opportunity may require you to be outside, so please dress accordingly for the weather.

We are located at 529 9th Ave, Midvale, UT 84047.

Drive to the end of the road and enter the gate on the right side, which usually is open. Park in any available parking spot in front of the building. Walk towards the donation area behind the gray fence. If the fence is not open, you can enter into the front lobby and let the staff know you are here to volunteer.

This facility provides meals, shelter, and other resources for up to 250 guests. We are open 24/7, 365 days a year for our guests and provide three meals each day. This opportunity invites individuals and small community groups to serve breakfast at GMRC for shifts of 2 hours. You will assist kitchen staff in preparing and serving meals, preparing to-go meals for on-the-move guests, sanitizing/cleaning the kitchen, doing dishes, and more. Breakfast is served every day from 7:30 am-9:30 am.

Requirements

All volunteers must be at least 12 years old and wear closed-toed shoes. Volunteers under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. All volunteers will be asked to wear a hairnet (provided), a beanie, or a ballcap worn backwards. A food handlers permit is not required to participate in this opportunity. This facility can accommodate 5 volunteers per shift in the kitchen.

We are located at 242 W Paramount Ave. in Salt Lake City.

From our front parking lot, you will see a gate at the north end of the lot. Approach the gate and use the call box to let our front desk know you are here to volunteer. Follow the road around the building to our back parking lot and park in any open stall. If volunteering with a group, please consider carpooling, as parking can be limited.

Please note that sometimes, map apps incorrectly route volunteers to an entrance on High Ave. but this is not a public entrance and you will not be able to enter. Please be sure to enter via our public entrance on Paramount Ave.

If the door is unlocked, or the garage door open, you are welcome to simply enter the building and head to the kitchen or warehouse. If the door is locked, please ring the doorbell located to the left of the door.

We are open 24/7, 365 days a year for our guests and provide three meals each day.  This opportunity invites individuals and small community groups to serve breakfast at PARC for shifts of 2 hours. You will assist kitchen staff in preparing and serving meals, preparing to-go meals for on-the-move guests, sanitizing/cleaning the kitchen, doing dishes, and more. Breakfast is served every day from 7:30 am-9:30 am.

Thank you for your interest in providing to-go meals for the children and families at The Road Home's Connie Crosby Family Resource Center. We are grateful for your support! We want to make sure everyone at The Road Home will have the chance to eat. We distribute first to the pre-school age children, and then to the older family members.  

What to Include

In each to-go meal please provide one main dish (PB & J sandwich, peanut butter and honey sandwich, tuna pouch and bread, etc.), two sides (fruit, veggie sticks, string cheese, applesauce, fruit pouch/cup, etc.), one snack/dessert (cookie, chips, crackers, etc.), and one beverage (water, juice box, Capri Sun, etc.). We do not have any dietary restrictions.  We ask for 85-120 meals. Please let us know in the note section how many meals you are planning to bring. If items in lunches need refrigeration please label accordingly. 

Delivery Instructions

Please bring the prepared to-go meals to CCFRC on your scheduled day between 8 am-11:30 am.

We are grateful for your support!  This facility provides meals, shelter, and other resources for up to 165 guests. We are open 24/7, 365 days a year for our guests and provide three meals each day.  This opportunity invites individuals and small community groups to serve lunch at the MVP Facility for shifts of 2 hours. You will assist staff in preparing food, serving meals, sanitizing/cleaning the kitchen/dining room, assisting guests and more. Lunch is served from 11:30 am-1:30 pm. 

Requirements   

All volunteers must be at least 12 years old and wear closed-toed shoes. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. A food handlers permit is Not required to participate in this opportunity. This facility can accommodate 3 volunteers per shift.

We have a playgroup program at our Connie Crosby Family Resource Center for children ages 2-5 who are not yet in school. Each shift is supervised by a lead volunteer, or the Volunteer Coordinator. We ask volunteers to show up by 10:15 AM to get the room ready for the kids by 10:30 AM. Parents pick up their kids at approximately 11:30 AM. Volunteers are expected to clean the room before they leave. 

If we are unable to have at LEAST 2 volunteers per shift, we reserve the right to cancel Playgroup for the safety of the children and volunteers. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Activities include playing with toys and Play-Doh, songs, story time, free play, crafts and snacks (if you want to bring a snack please comment on the sign up that you will do so). 

We can usually have up to 20 children in the playroom, depending on number of volunteers. We maintain a limit of 4 children per every 1 volunteer.

The goal of this program is to help children, ages 5 – 12 years old, become interested in reading. Volunteers read a stories with the children. There is generally one on one reading time followed by a group story and a craft or activity centered on the theme or characters in the story follow to reinforce the enjoyment of reading.

The Connie Crosby Family Resource Center playroom is available to schedule group activities with the kids on Tuesday evenings from 5-6pm. We can accommodate groups of 4-10 volunteers ages 16 or older. Please plan on 15-25 children ages 5–12. Activities can include dance classes, learning a fun new skill, classroom games, decorating cookies, craft projects, creating gifts for families during holidays, and more! Consider planning activities that are interactive and have multiple parts to accommodate short attention spans. 

We have some basic supplies available to use in the Playroom. If you need specific supplies, feel free to email and ask about availability. We generally have the following supplies available (please note that item availability is based on donations and may vary):

Volunteer to help spark interest and improve reading skills in children ages 5–12 by reading a story with them. Art and snack centered activities based on the theme or characters in the story will follow to reinforce the enjoyment of reading

We are also looking for adults ages 18+ (groups and individuals welcome) who are interested in leading an activity on a weekday afternoon. Activities can include, but are not limited to the following:

Basic craft supplies may be available upon request. Individuals and Groups looking to host a reoccurring activity will need to attend an orientation and complete a background check.

We also ask that you plan to bring everything that you will need to serve the meal, with the exception of tables, as we do not have a stocked food service kitchen. Here are some items to consider:

Please email Volunteer@theroadhome.org to schedule a date. Dinners are generally scheduled on Thursdays with some Tuesday and Wednesday availability.

Our Family Interim Non-Congregate Housing facility has a playgroup program for children ages 2-5 who are not yet in school. A Volunteer Coordinator supervises each shift. We ask volunteers to show up by 9:30 AM to get the room ready for the kids by 9:45 AM. Parents pick up their kids at approximately 10:45 AM. Volunteers are expected to clean the room before they leave.

Thank you for supporting our Changing Seasons, Changing Lives event!  Volunteers will assist with setting up various carnival games, organizing prize tables, and preparing various stations for activities. 

Thank you for supporting our Changing Seasons, Changing Lives event! Volunteers will be responsible for clearing tables where guests will eat. Additionally, volunteers will assist in stocking utensils throughout the evening. Since there will be alcohol served at the event, we will need at least 4 bussers per shift who are 21 years and older.

When signing up for a shift, please mention in the notes if you are 21 years and older.

Thank you for supporting our Changing Seasons, Changing Lives event! Volunteers will assist guests as they choose prizes they win with their earned tickets. Volunteers will also be responsible for keeping the prizes stocked and organized.

Not everyone is able to enter shelter, for a variety of reasons. We try to still provide these individuals with resources, and our Street Outreach Team works tirelessly to provide unsheltered families with the items and supplies that they need to avoid hunger, maintain hygiene, and protect themselves from the elements. If as an individual or as a group you would like to help our Outreach Team, below are some items that work well in distributable kits, but also know that kits can contain a wide variety items and that they are not limited to just what is on this list.
